Gardening and Grief

Hey Hun Flower Farm

Building healthy soil and community one bouquet at a time.

Hey Hun!

My name is Hannah and I run Hey Hun Flower Farm. I started gardening after years of swearing I had a black thumb back around 2019. That first year I focused mostly on veggies and bought many starts from the local middle school 4H. When I ate my first home grown cucumber, I was hooked! Each year I added a bit more to my space, killed many plants, and learned more and more about how to take a tiny seed and help it grow.

After a whirlwind of pandemic and teaching Kindergarten online I found myself overwhelmed and struggling to cope. Then, my grandma got very sick and passed away. My grandma was my best friend, we talked every day, and sending her pictures of my garden was one of our favorite things. I found myself called to my garden more and more after her passing, I found that my hands in the soil lifted my spirits, and what I planted the most was flowers. Each day I would run outside to see if my seeds had germinated or how much taller my seedling was, and after days and weeks of hoping I was rewarded with something beautiful.

Each flower that bloomed was both a gift and finite. Flowers are only with us for a few days or few weeks once they bloom. Those small seeds and those precious moments in my garden became my new conversation with my grandma. They taught me to actively participate in hope for the future and to revel in the present moment.

Where it all started...

Hi, I'm Hannah!

I'm so glad you're here!.

My First Try

My garden has evolved over the years from being only vegetables to a mix of flowers and veggies.

My Best Friend

Hey Hun is named in honor of my grandma Juanita. I miss her everyday.

Beauty

The garden will teach you to slow down, be present, and appreciate the little things.

In my grandmother's honor, Hey Hun (her daily greeting when we she answered the phone), was created. I can't wait to connect with each of you sharing more about gardening, healing our soil, and fresh local flower bouquets.
