What Do I Do with my Bouquet?

What Do I Do with my Market Bouquet?

You bought a bouquet from Hey Hun Flower Farm and now it's home and you aren't sure its thriving. Let's talk about how to keep your flowers thriving and how to make them shine!

Unwrap It

Remove the paper wrapping and rubber band- I have seen too many bouquets go home and get stuck in a vase with the paper on. The wrapping is great for protecting petals and stems during travel, but they need more space once they get home. The paper can be used in your worm bin, as a fire starter, or tossed in the compost bin!

Read the Care Card

Every bouquet comes with a Hey Hun Flower Care Card- this has extra bonus tips to keep your flowers lasting longer! When you are filling your vase only fill it half to one third full and try to change the water daily- simply lift the bouquet, dump out the old water and add in fresh. This decreases bacterial growth and promotes longer lasting blooms.

Set your flowers somewhere out of direct sunlight. While a vase in your kitchen window can be beautiful, please know that constant heat will shorten the vase life of your blooms.

Try adding some Flower Food to the water! Flower food keeps the water clean while also feeding the blooms what they need to shine. I love Chrysal Flower Food personally.

Pick a Fun Vase

Whether you found it thrifting, it was passed down for generations, or you just love it- make sure the vessel shows off the blooms. I have used my grandma's old mixing bowl, a secondhand ceramic pitcher, and all kinds of fun vases I have collected over time. A great rule of thumb for height is 1:1.5 ratio. So, if my vase is about a foot tall, I shouldn't have more than a foot to a foot and a half of stems above the vase. This keeps things looking balanced and should also keep it from tipping over or stems breaking.

I hope you found this helpful and inspired you to have more fun with flowers this Spring!
